So here's the new "trendy thing" in the hipster crowd(Mikey I hope you're taking notes. I expect your spin on it within weeks). The name they gave the a la mode items is retarded: Brand Whores; but apparently reworking a huge corporate logo into your hipster wardrobe makes you in the know.
Thrift store flannel - check
Fixie - check
Too cool to be anywhere - check
Another advertisement but she made an old burger king sweatshirt into a dress - check
Granted it is poking a little bit of fun at these conglomerates, which I quite enjoy but most of the examples I've seen have been pretty lame. One however did seem pretty intelligent to me:
I remember seeing this guy in college wearing an old white tshirt with the words 'Abercrombie' written in sharpie lax across the front. I thought that was cool. But then...then I saw 80 other people with the same idea and then i saw 10 more of those and then 15 more and so on. I believe that these trends become self effacing should they trend the trend. Though a conscious is always an inspiration in fashion-osity, I ask you...what makes this paperbag any different than the real thing?
ReplyDeleteThe paper bag doesn't know its a channel bag? It's all about the attitude. But what's even better is that now that there's a world recession all these luxary brands claim they want to carry less attitude and be more welcoming...??
