write your thoughts.

busy busy busy

breaking the ice, since it IS winter, and there hasn't been a post in a bit.

sore after yet another amazing day of snowboarding. contemplating whether to sleep in and rest my body before work tomorrow or get up early and hit the fresh corduroy. all the roommates talk about their days near the fire, good company. though the snow has not graced us with it's presence much yet this winter, the anticipation haunts. feels like good things. we're gonna go fast...

Brand Whores?

So here's the new "trendy thing" in the hipster crowd(Mikey I hope you're taking notes. I expect your spin on it within weeks). The name they gave the a la mode items is retarded: Brand Whores; but apparently reworking a huge corporate logo into your hipster wardrobe makes you in the know.
Thrift store flannel - check
Fixie - check
Too cool to be anywhere - check
Another advertisement but she made an old burger king sweatshirt into a dress - check
Granted it is poking a little bit of fun at these conglomerates, which I quite enjoy but most of the examples I've seen have been pretty lame. One however did seem pretty intelligent to me:

The Illusion that it will last forever.

Escape was what we wanted.
A performance is what we got.
A cheap trick with no prestige.
Foul taste and bright lights
as the ringmaster abandons his tent.
No refund.
Only a voucher to the next show
coupled with the illusion that it will last forever.

Mikey makes a difference.

Although he has only posted on this blog ONCE(which my constant badgering still hasn't fixed). Mikey is an integral part of this collective. Dudes actually busier then any of us. While we're on here shouting from our soap box, he's building this:

Yeah. fo reelz.
Mikey gave me a sneak peek at this "little" project. Hopefully he'll get his ass on here and give a little better explanation but for now I'll leave you with these.

Magic: Kurtis Carl Jackson

I found some magic in NZ.  4:15 pm in the afternoon.  The Billabong BROdown contest had just finished.  It had been a cloudy, icy day for the most part.  Everyone is leaving the mountain.  Luckily, as a SnowPark Volunteer, my man Lewis left the lift on for 'one more' run.  The sun was peaking through, light becoming orange, shadows turning blue.  As I am riding up the lift, a photographer named David Peacock was randomly near the big jump. I shouted, and begged for him to take a photo of this final lap through the jump line.  After being shut down by every other photographer there on previous days, I had hope but no expectations. I hit the jump, ride away and later gave him my e-mail, "no guarantees."  A few days later I get this picture in my e-mail...  like magic.

BRAND VS BRAND

With the recent release of 3, yes 3, new frogskin collabs in the last two weeks I feel a bit disheartened. First obviously some career envy for not being able to pull strings to get oakley to make our TRANSIT edition shades. Though relatively unknown, I still feel aesthetically, we definitely have something to offer. We(the individuals that make up this collective) have had our finger on the pulse of this culture before it was a culture. Even at times when the industry flattened and considered a fading light in a radical world, we marched on with our grand ideas. Ideas that have kept a shop afloat, Ideas that kept the old young, Ideas that have let out a tremendous roar. But back to the point of this. Collaborations by nature should share knowledge and search for a common goal. I feel collaborations these days in streetwear have become so watered down. Eye-catching yes, but have little to captivate for any period of time. They simply become brand recognition tools. Tools that highlight brands that want to sell you other products in their line. It's a lighter with a cigarette brand name on it. Rarely about the actual product, but more about the names that brought you that product. Names that were built by other products. So all & all, I'm satisfied we never got a chance to go to oakley & have them build our shades. Instead I spent countless hours painting them by hand. Sometimes finishing a pair all the way to just before clear coat and starting all over again. It's me in those strokes. It's US in those strokes. Even the people that surround me that aren't are part of TRANSIT are in those strokes. That being said here is one collab I am a fan of. This is when a product transforms.

Desiderata (Latin for “desired things”)

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding

A mini tribute to: Powdah Puhsuits Shred Shop

"What you do defines who you are...

.....NO, no, no! Who you are defines what you do!

It's not what you do, but the way that you do it."

What kind of breed of person does it take to work at a shred shop? ... The type of person that "feels warmer after a fart".... and mans the harpoons once in a while. Kurtis, you know what i'm talking about...

Rick Ross is the boss, not Chris Smith.

Live & direct... sort of.

I've had the pleasure of working with this soulful singer/songwriter on two occasions. The first was a music video in which Yoni Sandler & I directed the green screen portion for a song called "Oblivious". Which will be seen later here. The second time they (Samantha & her manager Jennifer) asked if I could roll down to San Diego & shoot some live footage. Here's a taste. And be sure to check out Samantha.

Alaska pt. 1

I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a week in AK visiting my grandparents. Everywhere you look there is beauty mixed with the harsh wilderness. Nature ain't no joke. The bear is from the wild. No zoo, animal conservatory, or circus here. More to come, enjoy for now.

Sleeping Giant

Many years ago there lived a gentle friendly giant. He loved life and the people of the Yampa Valley and was always ready to protect anyone who lived here from any danger. The people knew he was their friend and would always take care of them.
As the story goes, the giant was told that he would be granted eternal life and always be allowed to live in the Yampa Valley as long as he never harmed another living thing.
One day a bad giant ogre came to the Valley and started to terrorize the people. The Giant was very worried about their safety and lured the Ogre up to Steamboat Lake where he fell into the quicksand.
The people were relieved and happy that the Bad Ogre was gone and the Giant had saved them.
But - because the Giant had broken his oath not to hurt anyone, even though it was a very bad Ogre, he had to be put to sleep.
The whole valley came out for a ceremony to put the Gentle Giant to rest. They surrounded the base of the giant with rattlesnakes so that he would not be disturbed.
To this day, the giant rests and the rattlesnakes protect his peace.

A new voice

The youth are the future... well at least the present. Old people are so 90's. And we can't always be the coolest kids on the block. Although Kurtis can pull it off longer then anybody. But we know where cool hangs out.
That's why we decided to bring in a new generation of TRANSIT. Mind your p's & q's or else I'll have her cut ya. From shop lackey to retail killer to my right hand girl when it comes to the snow biz...... Chandler Kim everybody.

THE TWO CHOICES WE FACE

-I thought anyone could enjoy this.-KJ

by Jim Rohn

"Each of us has two distinct choices to make about what we will do with our lives. The first choice we can make is to be less than we have the capacity to be. To earn less. To have less. To read less and think less. To try less and discipline ourselves less. These are the choices that lead to an empty life. These are the choices that, once made, lead to a life of constant apprehension instead of a life of wondrous anticipation."

"And the second choice? To do it all! To become all that we can possibly be. To read every book that we possibly can. To earn as much as we possibly can. To give and share as much as we possibly can. To strive and produce and accomplish as much as we possibly can. All of us have the choice.
To do or not to do. To be or not to be. To be all or to be less or to be nothing at all."

"Like the tree, it would be a worthy challenge for us all to stretch upward and outward to the full measure of our capabilities. Why not do all that we can, every moment that we can, the best that we can, for as long as we can?"

"Our ultimate life objective should be to create as much as our talent and ability and desire will permit. To settle for doing less than we could do is to fail in this worthiest of undertakings."

"Results are the best measurement of human progress. Not conversation. Not explanation. Not justification. Results! And if our results are less than our potential suggests that they should be, then we must strive to become more today than we were the day before. The greatest rewards are always reserved for those who bring great value to themselves and the world around them as a result of whom and what they have become."
